The website for the online gaming group House Forsaken has been down for the past few days. Visitors to it receive this message:
House Forsaken
This site is down for maintenance.
Please check back again soon.
No peeking!
Forums: http://forum.houseforsaken.com
However, if you access the forums URL, you will soon find up that the situation is far worse than "down for maintenance."
Here's the forum announcement from "Administrator" Aeon:
Yes we lost the forums.
Long story short:
The backup was corrupted. I recovered as much as I ccould, but what I could recover.. was mostly worthless.
I apologize. I've spent the last 18 hours trying to fix it / rebuild the database.
If you see it here, I was able to save it.
I wish I could say I can think of something that was really important and Im upset I did not save:
On a brighter note: this saves a lot of my clean-up.
The database was almost 400 megabytes and really killing the server.
Most users wont have to re-register. If you're a newer member.. You will.
According to Rheem Octuris, the cause of the destruction of the old forum was:
It seems while Aeon was backing up the forum and converting to the new one, the server went down and some of the tables were corrupted.
I recommend going back and reset all your settings. They probably rolled back a few months.
The same thing happened back in late 2000, except the culprit that time was Maddog. Back then, HF was still a strong gaming clan and as such was able to survive the ordeal with minimal loss in membership. Since then, it has deteriorated to nothing more than a glorified forum clan. Now that the central hub of all clan activity has been zapped, it will be most interesting to see just what kind of impact that it has on HF.
